Dettori cautious as Sacred Act gamble gathers pace
Favourite Sacred Act came in for further support on Tuesday for Saturday’s Betfred Cambridgeshire, although big-race rider Frankie Dettori stressed the five-year-old will lack the experience of many of his rivals in the Newmarket cavalry charge.
Owned by Lady Bamford and trained by John Gosden, Sacred Act has just five starts to his name but was promoted to the head of the Cambridgeshire market on Monday, and the 10-1 available on Tuesday morning disappeared, with the race sponsor among those forced to cut his price further, in their case into 7-1.
"The gamble on Sacred Act is gathering pace at a rate of knots," said Betfred's Andrew Griffiths. "John Gosden had the bookies running for cover in 2007 with Pipedreamer and it could be a similar scenario this weekend, with support for Sacred Act unlikely to dry up anytime soon."
