Robbie Power will be out of action for at least four weeks after fracturing a vertebrae in a fall at Ballinrobe last Tuesday.

He was unseated from the Joseph O'Brien-trained Anywayyoulookatit at the first obstacle in a 3m1f handicap hurdle, and has not ridden since.

Power tweeted on Tuesday: "Just been to see my orthopedic specialist and unfortunately will be out of action for 4-5 weeks with a fractured T7 vertebrae from fall in Ballinrobe."

The jockey is the retained rider for the Potts family, and his biggest achievement came in 2017 when teaming with Sizing John to complete the Irish, Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cup treble in 2017.

He also rode 2007 Grand National winner Silver Birch.

Hogan eyes Rockingham for Epsom Dash flop Hathiq

Denis Hogan reports Hathiq to be none the worse for his Epsom Dash no-show and admits he would have been kicking himself had he not rolled the dice with the progressive sprinter.

The £3,000 bargain buy is now being lined up for a tilt at the €125,000 Rockingham Handicap at the Curragh on June 27, a race Hogan won two seasons ago with Tithonus.

Speaking about the Epsom defeat, Hogan said: "It was a shot we just had to take and if we were sitting at home and a 33-1 shot beat a 25-1 shot and we weren’t in the line-up we'd have been sick.”

Hogan added: "He's only had eight runs and the horses over there are hardened handicappers. We'll probably train him for the Rockingham and he came out of Epsom okay, which is the main thing."

Perth Gold Cup renamed

Perth has renamed its most famous race, the Perth Gold Cup, after former long-serving clerk of the course and general manager Sam Morshead, who passed away in October.

The Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup, which takes place this Sunday, is worth £40,000, making it Perth's single richest race, and has been renamed with the blessing of Morshead's family, many of whom will be in attendance.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Charlie Morshead – Sam's eldest son – said: "We are so pleased that Dad’s contribution to Perth Racecourse and to Scottish and UK racing will be remembered in such a fitting way.

"We're very grateful to the current team at Perth for this fantastic gesture and it will be an emotional occasion for all of our family."
