Dedication pays off as apprentice Saunders can dare to dream at Doncaster
The Flat turf season has nearly finished, but apprentice Tyler Saunders is only just starting his career, and the young rider will have his biggest ride on Dance The Dream in Saturday's Betfred November Handicap.
The four-year-old filly is one of the leading chances for the race at a general 8-1, and Saunders was aboard last time when the pair were successful at Leicester.
"It's the biggest day of my career so far and it's a great platform," Saunders said. "Being on ITV4 it's a great chance for me and the filly to show what we can do."
Regarding Dance The Dream's chances, the 21-year-old added: "The draw [23] isn't ideal but I'm sure we can do something to overcome that. If we can get things right then I'm sure she won't be far away."
Saunders will be in action through the winter on the all-weather, and Marcus Tregoning, his boss and the trainer of Dance The Dream, has been impressed with the apprentice's attitude.
"I'm very happy with him, and he's been given the chances because he works very hard and is very dedicated," Tregoning said.
"He takes himself off to John Reid and John coaches him on a regular basis and it certainly helps. I've noticed big changes in him and he'll get plenty of opportunities with me in the future."
Very good form
On Dance The Dream, who has gone up 3lb for winning last time, Tregoning added: "She's in very good form. The races get more difficult as she's climbed the weights but the ground's not an issue."
The ground at Doncaster was officially described as soft on Thursday, with a full field of 23 declared for the November Handicap.
Royal Line, who lost his unbeaten record last time at Newbury, goes for John Gosden, while Iain Jardine, who saddled Nakeeta to be fifth in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, has another big handicap fancy chance with Sepal.
