Decorated Knight warms up for Winter Derby Trial
Decorated Knight galloped before racing at Kempton on Tuesday ahead of his all-weather debut in the Lingfield Winter Derby Trial on February 4.
After watching the five-year-old gallop a mile under George Baker, trainer Roger Charlton said: "He is about 20 kilos above his racing weight and has done incredibly well since last year."
Decorated Knight had a truncated 2016, missing the Arlington Million after being injured in his stable at the Chicago track in the run-up to the race. He had won the Group 3 Meld Stakes under Baker in July on what was to be his last start of the year.
A speed sensor in the saddle recorded Decorated Knight hitting a top speed of 39mph in the final furlong as Baker just nudged him out after he lengthened easily up the straight.
Charlton added: "George was very pleased with him and said he was very relaxed.
"It will be interesting to see how he runs for the first time on the all-weather and after the Derby Trial he could then go for the Winter Derby or go to Dubai for the race Cityscape won as the Dubai Duty Free, although I keep reading of good horses going to run in it this year."
