John Dudgeon, a stalwart of the Scottish jumps scene who trained the 1984 Aintree Fox Hunters winner Gayle Warning, has died at the age of 84.

Dudgeon leaves a strong racing legacy being father of Perth chief executive Hazel Peplinski and also stepfather to trainer Nick Alexander.

From a farming family, Dudgeon, who trained for many years at Humbie in West Lothian and was master of the East Stirlingshire Foxhounds, rode successfully in point-to-points for 25 years.
