The funeral mass for former trainer John McLoughlin, who died on Wednesday in Naas Hospital aged 75, will take place in the Carmelite Church in Kildare at 11am on Saturday.

McLoughlin enjoyed Royal Ascot success with Gloriella, ridden by John Reid, in the 1988 Queen Mary Stakes and also trained Peace Girl, who was the joint top-rated Irish juvenile filly in 1987 when she won the Group 2 Curragh Stakes under Pat Eddery.

He had been in failing health for the past three years and is survived by his wife Monica, sons Barry, David, John and Robert and daughter Sue, his brothers Peter and Vincent and sister Frances.

In addition to Gloriella and Peace Girl other good horses to carry McLoughlin's blue and yellow colours included Fill The Bill, Susans Angel and Buddy Marvel

He will be buried in St Conleth's Cemetery in Kildare following the funeral mass.

Donations can be made to Kildare Day Care Centre and the Friends of Naas Hospital.
