Silvestre de Sousa returns to action on Thursday following a 12-day suspension with a double stint at Leicester and Epsom, “mad-keen” to retain his jockeys’ title.

Refreshed from enjoying a break with his family in Brazil, De Sousa has eight rides – several who appear to hold strong chances – as he bids to consolidate his position at the top of the table, in which he leads Ryan Moore by six winners.

De Sousa was hit with the long ban last month under the totting-up procedure for a fifth whip offence since March.
