Grand National-winning jockey David Mullins has set his sights on returning to the saddle in time for the Cheltenham Festival, less than 20 weeks after fracturing his clavicle and thoracic vertebra (T12) in a fall at Thurles in October.

The 23-year-old counts himself lucky to have escaped what could have been life-changing injuries by the skin of his teeth but never questioned his desire to return to race-riding.

He said: “It's been hard looking at all the good races from the sidelines, especially over Christmas, but these things happen. The injury itself is healing as quick as we could have hoped for.”
