Michelle Payne said it was "great to be back" after finishing fourth on her comeback ride at Sale racecourse on Sunday and declared her passion for racing to be undimmed after a period of recuperation from injury.

Payne, 30, was riding for the first time since splitting her pancreas in a fall in May which left her considering her riding future just months after becoming the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup on 100-1 shot Prince Of Penzance.

After riding Lucky Liberty, Payne said: "I was really happy with how he went and how I went. It's great to be back. I feel like I haven't missed a beat."
