Crowley free to ride Craven winner Eminent in 2,000 Guineas
Jim Crowley will have the chance to provide Frankel with his first Classic winner, with the reigning champion jockey able to keep his partnership with Eminent for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
Crowley has ridden the Martyn Meade-trained colt on his previous two starts, and the pair shot to prominence for next Saturday's Group 1 at Newmarket after a course-and-distance success in the Craven Stakes.
Now retained rider to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, Crowley could have been called upon to ride Zainhom, but connections decided to swerve the race after his third in the Greenham at Newbury.
Speaking in his Coral blog, Crowley said: "I’m now definitely riding Eminent in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas. Sheikh Hamdan hasn’t anything to run in the race so that’s left the way clear for me to ride Eminent."
Eminent is a general 11-2 chance for the 2,000 Guineas, and Crowley will also have a chance in the fillies' equivalent the following day with Talaayeb, owned by his boss.
Crowley added: "I think Talaayeb has a really good chance as well, so I’m really looking forward to next weekend."
Talaayeb was a winner on debut for Owen Burrows at Newmarket last September and heads straight to the 1,000 Guineas, for which she is a best-priced 14-1.
