Crosse is hot apprentice title favourite but Coen not going down without a fight

The Flat riders’ championship in Ireland has been wrapped up for a long time, with Donnacha O’Brien setting an unrelenting pace out in front all season, but the apprentices’ championship is far from over.

Shane Crosse, with 22 for the campaign, is two winners ahead of Ben Coen, while last year’s runner-up Killian Leonard (19) and Tom Madden (18) are also in the hunt as battle resumes at Gowran on Tuesday.

Schoolboys Crosse and Coen have played the lead roles in a terrific tussle, and with three winners last weekend it’s advantage Crosse in the climax to a season that ends at Naas on Sunday week.
