He may have been unaware of the milestone, but last Sunday Will Biddick became the first British amateur rider to reach 500 winners, and he is intent on setting more records.

Victory aboard the Ed Walker-trained Minella Beag at Chipley Park last weekend took Biddick to 500 and his overall score in British point-to-points to 437.

The rest of the jockey's victories have been accrued over jumps under rules as well as on the Flat and in Irish hunter chases and point-to-points.

Biddick was surprised when told of his achievement, and said: "I never think of wins under rules or in Ireland, just of point-to-points in Britain."

With that in mind, Biddick's next ambition is to reach 500 winners, solely consisting of British point-to-point successes.

Only 33, Biddick has no plans for retirement, and added: "I’m still loving it, and as long as I’m riding in races I’m giving it everything. It's not something you can do half-heartedly and I don’t want to just
fizzle out.

"I’d love to win a Foxhunter, yet I’ve won two Champion Hunter Chases at Punchestown which I didn’t plan. Maybe I’m trying too hard [at Cheltenham and Aintree]."
