Cox and Walsh taken to hospital after falls

Jockeys William Cox and Eoin Walsh were taken to hospital following a three-horse pile-up at Wolverhampton on Friday night.

The pair were involved in falls in the opening apprentice race, while a third rider Toby Eley was reported to have escaped unscathed.

Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said: "William Cox and Eoin Walsh have been taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for further investigation. Racing has been delayed while we await ambulance cover."

Racing resumed two hours later, with the remaining five races run by just after 9pm.

Aaron Jones, who rode in the race, went to hospital and tweeted: "Eoin in good spirit in hospital waiting for a x-ray on his arm and wrist. Eoin is staying in overnight to get surgery on his arm and William is still waiting on results both are in good spirt #speedyrecoverylads."

Cox was in a prominent position on Mobley Chaos entering the home turn when his mount clipped heels and came down.

Walsh, riding Secret Lightning, was hampered and unseated, while Eley was brought down on Binky Blue in the melee.

All three horses returned safely from the incident.

The 7f handicap was won by the Jo Hughes-trained Wink Oliver, ridden by Laura Coughlan.
