Cosgrave suspended for ten days after failing to ride out for third
Pat Cosgrave was hit with a ten-day ban by stewards at Lingfield on Tuesday evening after he failed to ride out for third place and was caught close to home aboard the favourite in the opening race.
Cosgrave was on board the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Creek Walk in the 1m1f maiden stakes and was sent off the 6-4 favourite on the three-year-old's second start.
Having momentarily got his head in front with a furlong to run, Creek Walk's stamina soon gave way as the eventual winner Sporting Times and runner-up Asaas went by him.
Cosgrave eased down inside the final half-furlong, which allowed 25-1 chance Abaad to dash up his inner on the rail and steal third place right on the line.
The stewards took evidence from Cosgrave and found him guilty of failing to ride out on a horse they believed would have otherwise finished third, banning him from Tuesday, June 27 until Thursday, July 6 inclusive.
