Coral-Eclipse confirmed runners and riders: superstar Enable faces seven rivals
Dual Arc heroine Enable faces a rematch with Breeders’ Cup Turf runner-up Magical on her return in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.
The seven-time Group 1 winner, who made a winning reappearance in the September Stakes last year, is unbeaten in her last nine starts and will be partnered by regular rider Frankie Dettori.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained Magical will have the benefit of race fitness having ran four times this season, most recently when second to Crystal Ocean in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The eight-runner field also features Brigadier Gerard Stakes scorer Regal Reality, the mount of Kerrin McEvoy, Dante winner Telecaster and Lockinge hero Mustashry.
Hunting Horn, fourth behind Crystal Ocean at Ascot, also represents O’Brien, who has not declared St James’s Palace Stakes winner Circus Maximus.
The David Menuisier-trained Dancetaria tackles top-level company for the first time after Group 3 success in the La Coupe at Longchamp last month. Menuisier said of Jamie Spencer’s mount, who is 40-1 with Coral: “I think he has improved again for the French race and his preparation has been very smooth.
“We always go in a race to win, obviously, but I’m not going to say we’ll beat Enable and we’ll beat this one and that one. If he runs the same sort of race as he did in France – and has improved a few pounds for it – he should run a really good race.
“He can lay up pretty much at any pace during the race and the faster they go the more he has a turn of foot to finish off the race.”
Enable is a 10-11 favourite with the race sponsors, with Magical second favourite at 7-2. Regal Reality and Telecaster complete the single-figure priced runners at 5-1 and 9-1.
