Cooper uncertain if he will return at the weekend following Ascot fall

Bryan Cooper was uncertain on Tuesday evening whether he will be back in action at the weekend or wait a bit longer before resuming following his fall at Ascot on Friday.

Cooper was riding Sizing Tennessee for Colin Tizzard and Ann and Alan Potts Limited in a beginners chase when the nine-year-old blundered and unseated him at the second fence.

He said: "My left shoulder blade is still very sore. I went for x-rays today and while they were clear, I'm going to give it another couple of days before deciding when I'll be back.

"It might be on Saturday or Sunday and, if not, I should definitely be back early next week."

Cooper, who has been riding most of the Potts-owned horses trained by Tizzard, has ridden four winners in Britain this year and achieved his most recent success when partnering Fox Norton to victory in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase at Cheltenham ten days ago.

That win came 24 hours after he had landed the Steel Plate and Sections Novice Chase, also at Cheltenham, on Finian's Oscar.

Cooper, 25, achieved the biggest success of his career when landing the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the Gordon Elliott-trained Don Cossack in 2016.

The former number one to Gigginstown House Stud has ridden 12 winners in Ireland this season.
