Connections of Jennies Jewel claim leading prize

Connections of Jennies Jewel were among a group of owners and breeders to walk away with a prize at the annual AIRO awards [Association of Irish Racehorse Owners] held at the Killashee Hotel at Naas on Saturday night.

The hugely popular mare, who was the first nine-year-old to win at Royal Ascot in 182 years, landed the award for her owner Andrew McIntyre in the National Hunt owner/breeder category, who was understandably delighted.

He said on Monday: "It was a wonderful night, to get an award like this was brilliant for everyone. Jarlath [Fahey], her trainer, deserves a lot of credit for the way he trains her, she can he quirky and he's done a wonderful job with her.
