Confirmed runners and riders for the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby
A thrilling fourth bout between Ahoy Senor and Bravesmansgame is on after they featured among a high-class final field for the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.35) at Wetherby on Saturday.
The pair have clashed three times before with the score in favour of Ahoy Senor, who has beaten Bravemansgame twice compared to the latter's sole victory over his rival in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase last year.
The duo make their first appearances since Ahoy Senor was a dominant winner of the Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree in April, with Bravemansgame a distant fourth that day, and head a field of six for the 3m Grade 2.
Among their rivals is last season's Haldon Gold Cup and Denman Chase winner Eldorado Allen, while Sam Brown and Paint The Dream complete the line-up.
Also at Wetherby, Grade 1-winning chaser Sporting John will race for the first time since January and faces five rivals in the Grade 2 bet365 Hurdle (3.00).
The seven-year-old was a leading candidate for the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but was a late absentee and heads to Wetherby instead of Ascot, where he was also entered in the Bateaux London Gold Cup.
His rivals include last year's winner Indefatigable, classy performer Threeunderthrufive and Grade 2-winning hurdler Thomas Darby.
The going at Wetherby is good to soft, good in places, and no watering will take place at the track following 3mm of rain on Thursday morning.
At Ascot, 13 have been declared for the Bateaux London Gold Cup (3.15), including last year's Scottish National second Kitty's Light, who was sixth on his reappearance at Chepstow earlier this month.
Also on the card, high-class hurdler Goshen will make his highly anticipated debut over fences in the opening 2m3f novice handicap chase against three rivals, including Lanzarote Hurdle winner and Martin Pipe second Cobblers Dream (1.30).
