Commentator Gary Capewell set to call 1,000th Arabian race

Wolverhampton: host Arabian racing on Sunday
1 of 1

Gary Capewell, who became the sole commentator for the Arabian Racing Organisation in 2008, will cover his 1,000th race in that sphere at Wolverhampton on Sunday.

Capewell, who also works for William Hill radio and has done stints for the Dubai Racing Channel in Meydan, began calling Arabian races in 2004 at Uttoxeter.

As commercial director of the ARO Alison Lidderdale highlights, Arabian racing can be particularly challenging at times. She said: "It’s an amazing achievement in itself, not withstanding some of the names he has to contend with!"

She added: "We're thrilled to be celebrating Gary’s landmark at Wolverhampton. He's incredibly popular within the Arabian community and has been an amazing support to us all."

The Royal Cavalry of Oman, who sponsor the card, have named a race in his honour and will make a presentation to him following the contest.
