Colm O'Donoghue: I'm so grateful to ride a filly as great as Alpha Centauri

Colm O'Donoghue giving Alpha Centauri a kiss after her win in the Falmouth Stakes last month
1 of 1

Colm O'Donoghue has ridden Alpha Centauri in all nine of her starts to date and relishes every opportunity he gets to sit on her. Here's what he had to say after her heroics in the Prix Jacques le Marois

She's such an exceptional filly. When she just eased out at the two-and-a-half pole, she wanted to go and I wasn’t going to block her. When she got down to the furlong marker she was just so strong underneath me.

Group 1s are never easy. I'm so grateful to ride such a great filly. I'm sure there will come a day when she gets into a fight with something, but there is no better horse that you would want on your side. She gives you everything.

We’re just playing to her strengths at the moment and, while on breeding I don’t think it’s beyond her to stay further, we have to do what’s right for the filly. She comes first.
