Derby runner-up Cliffs Of Moher set for Monday's Mooresbridge Stakes
Aidan O’Brien could aim plenty of firepower at the Group 2 Coolmore Camelot Irish EBF Mooresbridge Stakes at Naas on Bank Holiday Monday, as he looks to earn his tenth victory in the race.
O’Brien, who has trained seven of the last eight winners, is responsible for five of the 11 entries, including last year’s Investec Derby runner-up Cliffs Of Moher.
The champion trainer has also entered Hardwicke Stakes winner Idaho, War Decree, who won the Qatar Vintage Stakes in 2016, Clear Skies and Yucatan.
"Cliffs Of Moher and Yucatan look the most likely two for the Mooresbridge Stakes at the moment. They both ran at Naas last month and seem to have come out of the race well since. The drying ground would be a help," said O’Brien.
The Ger Lyons-trained Cannonball and Jessica Harrington’s Beautiful Morning, who finished second and third respectively and in advance of Cliffs Of Moher and Yucatan in last month's Alleged Stakes, could renew their rivalry.
Ken Condon has included Success Days, who most recently ran in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in Australia behind the unstoppable Winx, while Irish champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins has entered Renneti, whose two previous runs at Naas have ended in victory.
Mustajeer, who would be making just his third start for Lyons following a move from Owen Burrows' yard, and Jim Bolger’s Turret Rocks could complete the line-up.
Monday’s card also includes the Group 3 Athasi Stakes, which has attracted interest from William Haggas’ One Master and the Martyn Meade-trained Wilamina, while the Listed Polonia Stakes could feature Royal Ascot winner Different League.
