Cheltenham not on agenda for County fancy Davids Charm
Davids Charm, who was made a 20-1 shot for the County Hurdle after landing the €100,000 Bar One Racing Handicap Hurdle under Rachael Blackmore at Fairyhouse this month, is set to miss the Cheltenham Festival, trainer John Joe Walsh has revealed.
"He won't be going to Cheltenham," said Walsh. "I don't think he'll be experienced enough for that and even though he's had eight runs over hurdles, he's terribly green.
"When Davids Charm goes to the front he doesn't know what to do. He still has a good bit in hand but he'd want to learn how to knuckle down around the last."
The six-year-old has risen from a mark of 134 to 143 following his valuable Fairyhouse victory – 48lb higher than when making his handicap debut four starts ago – and now looks set to contest the valuable Coral Handicap Hurdle on the first day of the Dublin Racing Festival in February.
Walsh said: "We'll be freshening him up to run at Leopardstown before heading novice hurdling. He's a fair horse and seems to be improving the whole time, beating the handicapper.
"The sky's the limit for him, that's the kind of horse he is. He's not big but he seems to find more every day he runs."
