Charlie Appleby pair look well up to the mark as stray pheasant steps lively

The Racing Post was granted exclusive access to first lot at Moulton Paddocks on Wednesday, when this promising maiden had his nose in front of Court Poet (James Doyle) on the watered strip. The son of Sea The Stars was second to subsequent Craven Stakes winner Skardu on his sole start at Newmarket last September and looked up to scratch over five furlongs.

A lone pheasant had to take evasive action to dodge the son of Dubawi at the close of his uphill five-furlong exercise. He did well to finish sixth on debut in a hot maiden at Doncaster last month, which featured the likes of Derby possible Telecaster. Just You Wait will be more streetwise next time and holds an entry in a 1m2f novice at Leicester on Saturday.

Palmer won the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with Galileo Gold three years ago and is back for another crack with the Craven Stakes third, who breezed seven furlongs on the Al Bahathri. There should be improvement to come when the son of Dansili returns to the Rowley Mile on Saturday week.
