Champ's Long Walk helps Jalopy Jumpers leap into the lead in Ten To Follow

A vintage weekend for the green and gold silks of JP McManus also brought change to the Ten To Follow leaderboard, enabling Jalopy Jumpers 3 1 to vault ten places into top spot.

Victory for Champ in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle was the real table shuffler, with the 2020 RSA Chase winner adding 31.90 points to the tallies of the 6.3 per cent of stables who had kept faith with the nine-year-old after he was pulled up in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. Six stables in the new top ten have included him, with some jumping more than 20 places up the table thanks to this Ascot success.

Jonbon’s impressive victory in the Grade 2 Kennel Gate Novices’ Hurdle at the same course on Friday also got the leaderboard moving. The brother to Douvan secured 23.2 points for 5.1 per cent of stables as he moved into the top ten points scorers.

It was not only in Britain that McManus-owned horses were racking up success. The Willie Mullins-trained Capodanno got in on the act in a beginners’ chase at Naas, earning 16.3 points.

Aside from Champ, Tritonic was the next best scorer at Ascot over the weekend, with 26.6 points gained from his win in the Betfair Exchange Trophy, while Pic D’Orhy’s impressive win in the Grade 2 Howden Noel Novices’ Chase gleaned 23.55 points.

Elsewhere, there were notable victories for Adrimel (14.5) and Shakem Up’Arry (13.5) at Haydock, while For Pleasure (13.5) scored at Plumpton and Poetic Music (13.1) hit the right note at Newbury.
