A racegoer sent to prison for 22 months after assaulting two security guards at Catterick in an attack described as "sickening" by the judge has been banned from the track and others in the International Racecourse Management group.

Christopher Hugill was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on Monday, having admitted grievous bodily harm and assault in an incident that left Alan Thomson with a broken nose and a fractured eye socket.

"He has been banned from all our courses," said Catterick director James Sanderson. "If he's attacking people he's not welcome on any of our tracks. If he'll attack a security man he'll probably attack any of us, so he's not the sort of person you want on site."
