The car park adjacent to the Limekilns was full as early as 5.40am on Saturday, such was the competition to grab the best ground for crucial pre-Ascot workouts. Last year's Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner was the first up the Trial Ground under Andrea Atzeni and looks Varian's best chance of a Royal Ascot winner judging by the betting for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup. The three-year-old is difficult to get a handle on at home as he is never a flashy worker but he won't lack for fitness.
