Candy keen on Newmarket Challenge for stable star Limato
Limato, who has missed a number of possible engagements since his last run at Goodwood in August owing to unsuitably soft ground, is likely to return to action next week.
The dual Group 1 hero has been entered in two races, a 6f conditions event on Kempton’s all-weather surface on Wednesday, and the Group 2 Godolphin Stud And Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes at Newmarket two days later.
Trainer Henry Candy, as ever keeping a watchful eye on the weather for his five-year-old, said: “If the ground is okay he’ll go to Newmarket for the Challenge. At the moment the forecast looks quite favourable so that would be the main objective.
“If the forecast changed early next week then we would consider Kempton for him. As everyone knows, Limato is ground dependent and we’re hoping it doesn’t rain.”
Limato has yet to win in four starts this season, but showed himself as good as ever when finishing second to Harry Angel in Newmarket’s July Cup.
