William Hill used to be the hunter but now they are the hunted, with the firm resembling a wounded lion starting to become encircled by hyenas.
Not long ago it would have been unthinkable that Rank Group and 888 Holdings would be in a position to make a bid for William Hill and the two companies' combined value is still far less than that of their target.
Indeed, only 18 months ago it was 888 who were the subject of a takeover bid from William Hill.
