No Halloween shocks with FOBT debate set to rage on

Halloween got off to a grisly start for betting shop operators, but it is not the horror show it could have been.

Bookmakers have long resisted the notion that the maximum stakes on FOBTs should be reduced from £100, but they must have been resigned to that being the case when the government finally announced the fruits of its drawn-out, long-delayed gambling review.

Now it has arrived the bad news for bookmakers – and good news for opponents of FOBTs – is that a £2 maximum stake is among the options the government has put on the table.
