Any British racing enthusiasts of a nervous disposition should look away now. The new season might have brought fresh optimism but the scars of the mauling handed out by the Irish at the Cheltenham Festival are still to heal.

There were 23 Irish winners to Britain's five last March, with the only saving grace being the visitors weren't there in their usual droves to rub it in.

Leading the way was Henry de Bromhead, who wasn't just a thorn in our side but left us feeling like we'd been dragged through a holly bush.
