'You'll damage the sport' - World Pool chief sounds warning of fragmentation amid uncertainty over future of UK Tote
Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, who as chief executive of the Hong Kong Jockey Club is in effect the boss of World Pool, has warned that any fragmentation of Britain's pool betting offer would damage the sport.
Engelbrecht-Bresges was speaking to the Racing Post following the conclusion of the 58th Conference of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities in Paris at which the theme was integrity in racing.
The prospect of a potential challenge to UK Tote at the end of its seven-year contract with 55 of Britain's racecourses in 2025 is a cause of concern to Engelbrecht-Bresges, who expects World Pool to be in a position to announce an expansion to the number of days in the near future at the end of successful discussions with the Hong Kong government.
