York winner disqualified after amateur jockey breaches whip rules

Jockey Megan Jordan won her body weight in champagne with a gravity-defying ride last weekend but had victory taken away from her on Tuesday.
Jordan was a narrow winner of last Saturday's Queen Mother's Cup at York, where she was nearly unseated from My Dream World when she lost an iron early on.
She also managed to catch her whip in mid-air after fumbling it and the partnership regained their momentum to score by a head in the most prestigious race of the year for women amateur riders, whose prize includes bottles of champagne to match the weight of the successful rider.
But Jordan appeared to use the whip ten times on the winner, four times above the permitted level. The rules state the horse and rider should be disqualified if the whip is used four or more times above the permitted level.
Her ride was therefore referred to the BHA's whip review committee, which looked at the race at its bi-weekly meeting on Tuesday and decided to disqualify her. She also received a 14-day ban.
The prize was awarded to runner-up Chillingham, giving rider Becky Smith her first victory in a race she has been trying to win for 14 years.
