Nick Smith, Ascot’s director of racing and communications, is delighted Chris Waller seems much more open to the idea of travelling Winx to Europe next year than he was 12 months ago.
Smith’s efforts at attracting international runners to the royal meeting have been rewarded again and again, most recently by the US mare Tepin in this year’s Queen Anne Stakes.
Smith was as impressed as anyone by Winx’s runaway win and getting her to Royal Ascot would be another major feather in his cap.
