A new day has dawned in Newmarket. A wonderful day it is too.

The hands of the clock have only just nudged past 7am but already it's delightfully warm. The sun is spreading its precious gift over British racing's headquarters, which has arrived at the halfway point in its 350th anniversary celebrations. There is much to look back on but also plenty coming up, not least this week's July festival.

"We already have bookings for next year's July Cup," says Sarah Voss, restaurant manager at the Heath Court Hotel. "On ladies' day we'll be doing cocktails and nibbles from the morning onwards. If we're still busy we might carry on serving them on Friday and Saturday."
