'The man is a complete genius' - Emily Upjohn owner delighted to have Dettori
Frankie Dettori could get the ultimate send off to a glittering career by winning the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for a record-extending seventh time, with connections of Emily Upjohn delighted to be able to rely on the legendary rider for the most important year of their filly's career.
Dettori shocked the racing world when announcing he plans to retire after the Breeders' Cup at the end of the 2023 campaign on ITV Racing on Saturday, a decision that left Emily Upjohn's part-owner John Shack relieved his international ambitions for his once-in-a-lifetime filly would still have the assistance of the man he described as "a complete genius".
A stellar end to Emily Upjohn's season resulted in the John and Thady Gosden-trained filly, who will be four next term, ending the year as joint-second favourite for the 2023 edition of Europe’s richest race – alongside Aidan O’Brien’s exciting Classic contender Auguste Rodin – at a general 14-1.
