Shaping the battle lines in British racing - what happens next after Lord Allen's departure from the BHA?

The next few months could prove to be pivotal for the future shape of British racing. The resignation of BHA chair Lord Allen has not only caused uproar and recriminations but has also been the catalyst for a debate about the balance of power in the sport, with potentially seismic implications for its structure.
The discussion is not so much about the governing body but has instead moved on to the future of the body which many regard as British racing's most influential stakeholder, the Racecourse Association (RCA).
In the immediate aftermath of the BHA's announcement the Jockey Club, along with Ascot, Goodwood, Newbury and York, issued a surprisingly public statement of intent, calling on the RCA to begin a formal governance review to enable industry change and setting a deadline for a reform proposal by the end of April.
