Royal Ascot winner My Cloud a significant non-runner in Saturday's Summer Mile

Roger Varian's Royal Ascot winner My Cloud is a significant non-runner for Saturday's Cornish Orchards Summer Mile at Ascot.

The four-year-old was smashed into 3-1 for last month's Royal Hunt Cup and duly obliged under Silvestre de Sousa, making smooth headway towards the stands' side of the 30-runner field to win by three-quarters of a length from Bullet Point.

It continued his rapid rise through the ranks, with two seconds on his first outings followed by four consecutive wins including three in handicaps. He had been put up 9lb by the handicapper to a mark of 104 ahead of his first step into Group company, for which he was available at around the 3-1 mark.

Varian said: "His scope wasn't perfect this morning. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't worth taking a chance on, so he's not going to run."

His absence leaves seven runners in the Group 2 contest, headed by impressive Buckingham Palace Stakes winner Never So Brave for Andrew Balding and David Probert.

Established Group-race performers Quddwah, who won this last year, Haatem and Prague are also part of the field.
