Having joined Willie Mullins from Jim Bolger, Annie Power's reputation had been building steadily with easy wins against lesser opposition, and she would face her stiffest test to date in this Grade 2.

Defy Logic, no slouch himself, set a strong pace, but it wasn't quick enough for Ruby Walsh and Annie Power as the pair powered clear to defeat a field including Don Cossack and The Tullow Tank.

Fresh from her Naas victory, Annie Power was pitched back against her own sex for her first Grade 1 assignment. Walsh toyed with the opposition, sitting last of six before cruising to the front between the third and second-last flights.

It was a performance that cemented Annie Power as a potential superstar, and Mullins said afterwards: "She could be anything. She's starting to show you guys now what I always knew she was. She really could be anything."

Annie Power was still unbeaten after ten starts when heading to the Cheltenham Festival for the first time and there was plenty of debate as to which race she should go for. The Champion Hurdle was considered favourite by many, but Mullins already had a star in that division with Hurricane Fly, who would finish fourth to Jezki.

Conncections opted for the World Hurdle and a first attempt at three miles beckoned. She ran a great race but was unable to justify favouritism, going down by a length and a half to More Of That.

The fall that saved the bookmakers millions. Day one of the 2015 Cheltenham Festival was proving to be a bonanza for the punters and a bloodbath for bookmakers as Mullins carried off the major prizes.

If Annie Power could justify odds-on favouritism for the mares' hurdle, the bookies were staring at a multi-million pound payout.

Striding clear from two out victory looked a formality but disaster struck at the last. She dived at the hurdle, came down and bookmakers breathed a sigh of relief.

With no Hurricane Fly or 2015 winner Faugheen, the way was clear at the 2016 Cheltenham Festival for Annie Power to test herself in the Champion Hurdle, although there were worries she may be undercooked after having made just one start since May 2015.

This time, there was to be no last-flight drama as she made virtually all the running to defeat My Tent Or Yours by four and a half lengths and secure festival redemption.

Mullins said: "I didn't think she'd be able to do it like that. It was a huge performance."

It would prove to be her penultimate start and she signed off her career with a fifth Grade 1 win in the Aintree Hurdle.
