'Extremely strict set of conditions' placed on Oisin Murphy's licence and effective immediately, says BHA

"An extremely strict set of conditions" have been attached to Oisin Murphy's riding licence and are effective immediately, the BHA announced on Friday.
Acting BHA chief executive Brant Dunshea revealed on Thursday that the governing body was working through the process of agreeing conditions attached to Murphy's licence in the wake of his court appearance last week. Murphy was fined £70,000 and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading guilty to driving over the limit for alcohol.
The four-time champion jockey said there was "no excuse for what I did" in a statement released after the hearing at Reading Magistrates' Court last Thursday. Details released in the case revealed that Murphy had a single-vehicle accident in April when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a tree.
In an update issued on Friday morning, the BHA said the conditions must be adhered to at all times and included "detailed and strict procedures relating to further enhanced testing, both on and off the racecourse".
Murphy will also be required to engage regularly with the BHA and must alert it in a timely manner "to any change in his personal circumstances that could reasonably be said to be relevant to his position as a licensed jockey".
Some licensing conditions will remain private and confidential, a point alluded to by Dunshea on Thursday, though he added at that time Murphy's actions were "below the standard that we would expect".
The BHA said in its update that Murphy's conditions and compliance with them will be "subject to careful monitoring and regular review", and added that it reserves the right to seek the immediate suspension or withdrawal of his licence.
Dunshea, speaking on Thursday before the conditions were finalised, said: "The BHA was not given access to the information in relation to the criminal proceedings until we learned the full details in court. We have to understand and appreciate that these matters are not within our jurisdiction and so the information we were dealing with was limited.
"We’re working to come up with a set of conditions that not only ensures we’re protecting the integrity and reputation of British racing and the safety of our horses and people, but also that we’re doing it in a way that ensures that Oisin gets the support and help that he might need to deal with his issues."
Murphy leads the jockeys' championship by 18 winners from William Buick following Thursday's racing at Newmarket, though he has not added to his tally since the court case. He has a six rides at Newmarket on Friday and seven at the track on Saturday, including Symbol Of Honour in the July Cup.
