'There's nothing quite like this in any other sport' - Chester public meet retired racehorses in city centre event

Racing took over the centre of Chester on Wednesday when the public had the chance to meet two retired racehorses.
Great British Racing brought its "urban racing yard" to Northgate Street in the heart of the city as part of National Racehorse Week.
They were joined by TV stars and racing enthusiasts Chris Hughes, who is a Racehorse Week ambassador, Sam Quek and Rachel Lugo (from Housewives of Cheshire).
Jockey Lilly Pinchin was on hand to give riding tips as people rode a mechanical horse while wearing a virtual reality headset.
Passers-by could also watch farrier and physio demonstrations, with the chance to ask the experts about caring for racehorses and witness jockey demonstrations.

Hughes, who is an owner, said: “I have loved being part of the event in Chester. Getting to experience these magical horses up close cannot be underestimated and to be able to share that with so many people is so rewarding.
“It's been brilliant to be able to show people just how much care goes into looking after racehorses. Everyone working in the sport is passionate about providing the best possible care we can to the horses we all adore and I'm really proud of the fact that so many members of the public have been able to see that.
“There is nothing quite like this in any other sport. It's fantastic that the events during the week are free to attend with everyone welcome to join. You don’t get the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes like this in other sports.”

Quek added: “It was fantastic to be able to share my love for horses and the sport with so many families. Thoroughbreds are amazing, empathetic animals and to be able to have them here in Chester and give the public the chance to meet them up close has been wonderful.”

How could you not support celebrating the thoroughbred if you love horseracing?
