Kevin Philippart de Foy to make move into Amo's Freemason Lodge next week

Kevin Philippart de Foy: sends just one runner to Kempton on Wednesday evening
Kevin Philippart de Foy: has 52 horses in training at his Induna Stables, according to the BHA

Kevin Philippart de Foy will take up residence at Freemason Lodge next week having agreed to become principal trainer for Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing.

Philippart de Foy, 33, was announced as the new trainer at the helm for Amo on July 1, taking over from Raphael Freire at Sir Michael Stoute’s former yard, but has continued to train from his base at Induna Stables on Newmarket’s Fordham Road in the days since.

However, the process of transferring his horses across to Freemason Lodge is due to begin after Newmarket’s feature July festival, with final clearance then being needed from the BHA for him to begin sending horses out into action.

Speaking at Newmarket, Philippart de Foy said: “We’re moving the horses in the middle of next week. At the moment, we’re waiting on the BHA for approval for when we’re able to start running horses. So hopefully that won’t take too long once we have moved them.”

Philippart de Foy was on hand with Amy Drummond, Amo Racing’s head of operations, in the debrief with trainer Clive Cox following the withdrawal of Amo’s Ghostwriter from the Princess of Wales’s Stakes. The £2 million purchase had reared up and flipped over while being saddled for the Group 2, for which he was the short-priced favourite.

As well as the Amo runners, Philippart de Foy is planning to transfer horses belonging to his other owners across to Freemason Lodge. He has 52 horses in training according to the BHA, while Freire, who has sent out two winners from two runners since the announcement, has 41 horses.

At the time of the announcement Freire said he had made it clear to Joorabchian that he “would eventually like to return to my original role” having got Freemason up and running, adding: “I’m here to support Kevin through the transition, and once that’s complete I’ll resume my position as Amo’s private trainer with renewed focus.”
