'I hope it doesn't go any further' - Kinane hopes new rules can end whip debate

Mick Kinane, one of the greatest Flat jockeys of all time, hopes recommended changes to the whip rules in Britain can ensure the hot topic does not need to be revisited again, outlining his desire for no further restrictions on whip usage in the future.

A total of 20 recommendations from the Whip Consultation Steering Group were revealed in a wide-ranging review on Tuesday, with a ban on whip use in the forehand position one of the biggest developments.

Horses will be disqualified if their jockey has used the whip four or more times more than the limit for that type of race, with discretion given to the stewards to discount instances of whip use down the shoulder with both hands on the reins, or if needed for safety.
