Henry Brooke's injury woes continue after Grade 1-winning jockey breaks leg in Perth fall

Grade 1-winning jockey Henry Brooke will spend time on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a broken leg sustained in a heavy fall at Perth on Thursday.
Brooke was aboard the Dianne Sayer-trained Wearelongterm when he fell at the penultimate flight in the 3m handicap hurdle won by The Flying Poet. Evenwood Sonofagun also took a tumble at the same hurdle, but both horses were reported to be okay after the race.
Brooke, who last season enjoyed a career-best campaign with 62 winners when predominantly riding for Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero, has registered 13 victories from 112 rides this term. He is expected to miss a prolonged period following his surgery, although his agent Wilson Renwick is unsure as to how much of the season he will miss.
"He's got a lower leg break and it was operated on this morning," Renwick said. "I spoke to Henry before it and he's obviously very disappointed. It's always a bad time for something like this to happen, but especially at this time of year when things are starting to kick off again."
Brooke's injury woes
October 2016 Suffered a frightening fall at Hexham when he broke several bones, punctured a lung and had to be placed into an induced coma.
October 2020 A schooling fall resulted in Brooke breaking three vertebrae in his neck, an incident that was just inches away from leaving him paralysed. He said at the time he thought was being a bit "soft" by driving to hospital and giving up his rides.
October 2021 Broke five ribs and punctured his lung in a fall at Kelso. He said: "October clearly isn't my month."
February 2022: Took a third-flight fall at Sedgefield, fracturing a couple of vertebrae in his neck.
July 2023: Suffered multiple fractures in his hand before returning in late September that year.
