'Grave error of judgement' - former chair Payne hits out at PJA over hearing

The former chairman of the Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) Nigel Payne has criticised the organisation over its handling of the high-profile disciplinary hearing involving Bryony Frost and Robbie Dunne.

Payne, who was chairman for eight years until 2020, also called on the PJA to communicate to its members that they were "not at war" with anybody after jockeys spoke out last week about what they believed was an unfair representation of weighing room culture.

He described the PJA's attempt to get the case dismissed in October as a "grave error of judgement" but praised chief executive Paul Struthers for retracting some of the claims made in a statement released following the announcement of Dunne's 18-month ban.
