Gosden bids to uphold Classic form with Derby fourth

John Gosden has won as many King Georges as Sir Michael Stoute and Aidan O'Brien in the last ten years but he is the only one of them to have succeeded with three-year-olds, a deed he attempts to repeat with Derby fourth Wings Of Desire.

Nathaniel and Taghrooda have put Gosden on the Ascot podium twice in the last five years and he could have made it there a third time if he had not been forced to pull out Golden Horn because of the going 12 months ago.

Wings Of Desire's brother Eagle Top was beaten in a photo-finish to the race a year ago and the Dante Stakes winner will be the only representative of the Classic generation in today's renewal.
