Chelmsford joins jumps cards at Ffos Las and Fairyhouse in passing Saturday morning inspection as ITV4 set for bumper 11-race programme
Jumps racing will take place in Britain and Ireland on Saturday after Ffos Las and Fariyhouse passed inspections, while Chelmsford's all-weather meeting will also go ahead after the track survived a second morning check.
An inspection for Chelmsford's eight-race all-weather fixture was called after temperatures dipped to -3C overnight. But the freezing fog covering the track earlier this morning has now lifted and racing will begin at 12.55, with the going standard to slow.
Ffos Las benefited from a rearranged fixture after the cold weather wiped out the weekend's original jumps action across Britain, with the Grade 2 Towton Novices' Chase (1.15), which has been moved from a frozen Wetherby, one of four races to appear on ITV4. A total of 11 races will be broadcast, with action from Chelmsford, Newcastle and Fairyhouse forming part of a bumper afternoon.
Conditions at Ffos Las were due to be assessed at 7.30am with the possibility of temperatures dropping below freezing overnight, but the course was passed fit for racing just before 7am after overnight temperatures reached 5C. The going is soft for the eight-race card, which begins at 12.12.
Speaking on Saturday morning, Ffos Las's clerk of the course Tracey O'Meara said: "The temperatures were tropical overnight compared to other places, so we had no issues. It was around 5C last night with a bit of rain around the 0.5mm mark, but everything looks good. There's a bit of rain in the forecast but it's nothing untoward or to be worried about."
Fairyhouse also got the green light for its jumps card on Saturday, which features the Grade 3 Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase (1.45), after the track thawed out overnight.
Speaking just after 7.30am on Saturday morning, its clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan said: "The good news is we're good to go, the areas we were concerned about yesterday are fine. We're currently at 5C but Met Eireann think we'll get up to 7C. It remains soft on the chase course after 5.5mm of rain overnight, but the hurdles course has tightened in areas and is yielding to soft, soft in places."

Extra jumps fixture added at Hereford
An additional jumps meeting has been arranged for Hereford on Wednesday after freezing temperatures led to a series of abandonments across Britain this week.
Just two jumps meeting have been completed since last Saturday due to the cold spell in the country. Entries for the six-race card, which includes a race which could divide, close at 12pm on Saturday with declarations on Monday.
The BHA attempted to create a meeting in the north next week, but it was not possible due to the forecast as well as scheduling around the original fixture list. In a release on Friday, the BHA said all options were being considered to create further opportunities.
The ground at Hereford is soft, good to soft in places with temperatures to increase from Monday.
