Clive Cox eyeing Prix Morny or Gimcrack next for Jasour after swerving Glorious Goodwood
Jasour could be stepped up to the highest level for the first time in this month's Prix Morny at Deauville after the July Stakes hero was forced to miss Glorious Goodwood last week.
The Clive Cox-trained juvenile was a leading fancy for the Richmond Stakes at the Sussex track, but swerved that assignment due to the testing ground and could be seen in the 6f Group 1 on Sunday week.
The son of Havana Grey also has the option of the Gimcrack Stakes at York's Ebor meeting but which race Cox will target him at has yet to be decided, with a possible dry spell of weather set to play a key role.
"We're very happy with him. He was meant to go to Goodwood but the ground was just too soft," he said. "I was relieved we didn't go there in the end as the rain they got was torrential, but Goodwood did really well to get as much racing on as they did.
"He's going to be in the Prix Morny and the Gimcrack Stakes and we'll make a decision closer to the time for where we go. It'll be guided by the dry weather really."
Cox struck in the Sumbe-sponsored Prix Morny in 2012 with Reckless Abandon, while his 150-1 Coventry Stakes winner Nando Parrado hit the frame in 2020.
He added: "It's a race we hold in really high regard. We've liked to run a couple of our good ones in it."
The trainer also houses another smart two-year-old in Symbology, who finished third in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot last month. She holds entries at York's Ebor meeting in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes and the Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes.
"It was a big step up from her maiden win to Group 3 company and she's a filly to look forward to," Cox said. "She's well-entered, but she's done really well from her two starts already which we can build on."
