Costello bullish as Quiet Reflection team target July Cup
Rider not fazed by task facing filly at Newmarket
The prospect of Quiet Reflection taking on older sprinters for the first time in Saturday’s Group 1 Darley July Cup is failing to dampen the considerable enthusiasm of her big-race rider Dougie Costello, who thinks stepping the impressive Royal Ascot winner into all-aged company could even propel her to a higher plane.
Having looked more likely to skip Newmarket for Haydock's Sprint Cup on September 3 after proving herself number one in the three-year-old sprinting division with victory in the Commonwealth Cup, the recent autumnal-like weather has swayed trainer Karl Burke to target the July Cup.
With the opposition likely to feature Profitable and Twilight Son, winners of the open-age Group 1 sprints at Royal Ascot, a definitive sprinting pecking order is set to be established.
