Confirmed runners and riders for the Dewhurst and Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday

The Darley Dewhurst Stakes (3.00) promises to be one of the best juvenile races of the season after leading hopes Gstaad, Distant Storm and Zavateri were declared in a nine-runner field for Saturday’s Group 1.
Aidan O’Brien seeks an outright record ninth victory in the race and Coventry winner Gstaad is his main hope on the back of two narrow Group 1 defeats, including when beaten a head by Zavateri in the National Stakes at the Curragh last month.
The Ballydoyle trainer also runs National Stakes third Italy in a race he most recently landed with City Of Troy two years ago.
Distant Storm, an impressive course-and-distance winner in the Tattersalls Stakes last month, is one of three runners for Charlie Appleby, who has won three of the last six runnings.

William Buick rides Distant Storm, while Billy Loughnane partners Superlative Stakes scorer Saba Desert, who wears first-time cheekpieces, and Rossa Ryan is aboard outsider Pacific Avenue.
Zavateri has been a stable star for Eve Johnson Houghton and arrives with a 4-4 record, adding to Group 2 wins at Newmarket’s July festival and Glorious Goodwood with a Group 1 success in Ireland last time.
The John and Thady Gosden-trained Oxagon, who finished second to subsequent Lagardere winner Puerto Rico in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, and Karl Burke’s unbeaten Alparslan are others with claims in a deep race that has attracted its biggest field since 2020.
Distant Storm heads the betting at 9-4 with Paddy Power, who are offering 5-2 about Gstaad and 10-3 on Zavateri after Thursday's declarations.

Cesarewitch attracts field of 21
Alphonse Le Grande and Manxman, last year’s one-two in the Cesarewitch with the winner reinstated on appeal, feature in a field of 21 for the 2m2f handicap (3.40). It is the joint-lowest field this century, matching the turnout in 2022, with the race having a maximum field of 32.
There are ten Irish-trained runners in the line-up, including the Charles Byrnes-trained trial winner Reverend Hubert, the Willie Mullins-trained topweight Hipop De Loire and the JP McManus-owned Dawn Rising, the mount of Oisin Murphy, and 2023 scorer The Shunter.
Chester Cup scorer East India Dock was the most notable absentee among the four stayers who were not declared. The low-weighted three-year-old Belgravian and Ian Williams-trained Beylerbeyi, who has improved by 20lb since late July and is 5lb well in, are among Britain’s leading contenders.
