Charlton hoping ground dries for Brigadier Gerard winner

After he missed two Group 1 options this year because of soft ground, a third opportunity is not being spurned for Time Test today even though he will not get his ideal conditions.

Time Test won his maiden on good to soft ground but in victories at Royal Ascot last year and the Brigadier Gerard Stakes over today's course and distance this season he has shown how much more effective he is on a faster surface.

On both the two previous occasions he has run at Group 1 level, in last year's Juddmonte International at York and the Breeders' Cup Mile in which he was also badly drawn, he has had to run on easy going.
